For years you have erected a huge wall between us
That was beyond scaling
All my efforts were fruitless
And no longer occurred to me to try.
At last I pack my broken heart and left
But the long lonely miles away from home
Only proved that I loved you
More than I ever did before.
I was like a man without a country, rootless
And a piece of my heart was tucked away
In a house by the raging sea
You called me a friend
But the conversations that we shared
Were more than meet the eyes
There was more to it than simply admiration
And a delight in the lost art of conversation.
Perhaps my return was too late
